Whilst there are many variations to the ingredients in the Planter's Punch, this is the version that we recommend. The grenadine is optional, but if you love the taste of grenadine, then it's a must! The first step is to take your cocktail shaker, and mix all of the ingredients in it until you're happy that everything's mixed nicely – this typically takes around 2 or 3 minutes.

If you prefer your cocktail beautifully chilled, then the addition of some crushed ice is recommended. You can blend down ice cubes in a suitable blender. Once you have your crushed ice, you can then pour the ice into your glass, along with the mixture you created in the previous step.

This cocktail is another IBA official cocktail that is frequently made. As the name implies, it is a punch – like the Sangria. Punch drinks stems from India, where it was introduced into the Western world in the early 17th century. This particular punch consists of rum, and is a classic amongst rum drinkers since it is not overly difficult to make – only the ingredients may be somewhat difficult to get ahold of.

The Planter's Punch came to prominence when the recipe was printed in the New York Times at the start of the 20th century. There are also many varities to this cocktail, but this is the most common of all of those, and takes less than 5 minutes to make.

Contrary to popular belief, the Planter's Punch is not a cocktail per se, but rather a rum-based punch that is made in various ways, which can lead to confusion amongst people on how to make it authentically. You could quite easily substitute the fresh orange juice for fresh pineapple juice, and still have yourself a Planter's Punsh at the end.
