How to make a Mojito

  • 1
Whilst the Mojito can be made in numerous ways, there is always a traditional and original way. Hemingway enjoyed this version many, many years ago, but it has since gone through a thousand changes in its illustrious history. The first step, however, as always, is to place your mint leaves into your chosen glass.

Squeeze a little of your lime on top of the mint leaves. This gives the Mojito a nice subtle taste, but it's certainly not over-powering in the slightest. It may not be necessary to use all the juice from the lime, since you'll only want about 60 ml of lime juice.

Add your powdered sugar to the mixture, and gently abuse your mixture with a wooden spoon. Technically this should be a "muddler" if you wish to be pretentious, but it is unnecessary, and most people would use a wooden spoon, or the back of a fork or a spoon, depending on your preference.

When you add the ice into the concoction, it is better to have it crushed beforehand. This can be crushed in a blender. One word of warning here is to make sure your blender is ice-proof, since ice can damage weaker blenders, but even the plastic blenders are sufficient to blend ice. Add the crushed ice – or just ice straight from your freezer if not, and give it a quick stir.

Finish your Mojito off by adding the white rum, and finally the club soda. Give your Mojito another stir before settling down to drink your fine, fine cocktail.
